Project Description
The Colossi Of Memnon, Thebes, Luxor, Egypt
This was a complete documentation survey undertaken by myself at the request of Hourig Sourouzian, Director of the Colossi of Memnon and Amenhotep III Temple Conservation Project. The survey located, identified and documented surviving polychromy on the quartzite Colossi of Memnon dating from c. 1350 BC. It was carried out over two seasons, using close visual examination and analysis techniques, examination under magnification, infrared photography, and pigment analysis through polarised light microscopy. The results of the survey are published in the most recent conservation report of the Colossi of Memnon and Amenhotep III Temple Conservation Project.
